Tips on Growing Your First Plant Indoors

Tips on Growing Your First Cannabis Plant Indoors

Sooner or later, all devoted stoners come up with the idea to experiment with cannabis cultivation themselves. Whether you are a skilled gardener or not, you can start with a single plant and see if you like it.

Despite smoking the plant for years, many of us do not actually know how to cultivate it. In fact, the plant is called “weed” for a reason—it grows everywhere and without serious complications.

The most important part that you have to understand is the plant's flowering. Outdoors, it produces a harvest once a year when the days become shorter. That is why the proper lighting of the plant is arguably the most important thing that you need to take care of when you grow weed at home.

The photoperiod must be controlled, and you must do it yourself. If you leave the lady to her own devices, she will flower in the immature state and produce poor-quality buds.

However, let us start from the beginning. When choosing a medium for your first plant, do not try to look like an expert, just buy simple organic potting soil that often comes with the necessary nutrients. Besides, airy mediums will allow the roots to breathe. The more nutrients there are in the soil, the later you will need to start feeding the plant. In the best case, you will not use any additional substances before you begin the flowering period.

It may seem odd to you, but it is you who will decide when the plant flowers. At first, however, the plant has to spend a few weeks vegetating. To keep the lady in this condition, you have to place it under the light for more than 12 hours every day. Stick to this lighting cycle for four to six weeks.

To provide so much light, a simple window is not enough. You will have to buy a lamp. Here comes the trickiest part of the preparations. Quality lamps are usually the most expensive part of cultivation. However, for your first plant, you can choose something simple and cheap. In hardware stores, you can find several options that will do the trick. The most common of them is a 250-watt HID (high-intensity discharge) bulb—either an HPS (high-pressure sodium) or MH (metal halide). Unfortunately, this bulb requires a specialized HID fixture.

Another option is to combine daylight with artificial lighting. If you have a window with good sunlight, you can use fluorescent bulbs as a supplement after sunset. Remember that the light must be intense for your plant to develop fully. If the power of the sun is not sufficient, set the lamp for longer.

If you grow your cannabis plants indoors, you may decide to take your cannabis pots outside once in a while so that they can enjoy the summer sun just like you do. But is it okay with the plants? Does it bring more health than damage?

For the flowering, use the 12/12 lighting cycle. This period requires very strong light, and simple daylight will not do. For the next few weeks, you will use only strong lamps. In addition, it is better to move the plant to an enclosed location. During the dark period, the plant has to be safe from all light. Any leaks can confuse your lady and disrupt its wellbeing.

Basically, these are the most necessary pieces of advice that you need to know and follow when growing a plant for the first time. Of course, this one pot will not give you many flowers, but the satisfaction that you get from knowing that you have done it yourself is unmeasurable.
